Steamtown Peterborough

< >

The Steamtown Peterborough Society was established in 1977 with the intention of preserving and operating the final remnant of the old South Australian Railways northern narrow gauge division which was then under control of Australian National Railways.
As there were by then no ex S.A.R. locomotives available two W class 4-8-2's and a PMR 4-6-2 were purchased from Western Australian Railways. Unfortunately, due to lack of volunteers and a crisis with public risk insurance, trains have not been run for several years now. The collection has been yaken over by Peterborough Council and a static museum established in the old roundhouse.
