Abbey Light Railway

>

The Abbey Light Railway was a privately owned 2-foot gauge railway running for a quarter of a mile from the depot on Bridge road, through scenic woodland into the grounds of the historic Kirkstall Abbey.

Public passenger trains operated on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays 1:00 - 5:00pm (weather and passengers permitting) throughout the year, hauled by a vintage industrial diesel locomotive.

The railway operated for 35 years until Peter Lowe, owner of the Abbey Light Railway, sadly passed away in October 2012. For various reasons the railway was unable to continue operating without him. Therefore, the whole thing was removed and sold during February and March 2013. Every part of Peter's collection has gone to a good home.
