Southwold Railway Trust

Having had its application to develop a heritage centre and restored stretch of the Southwold Railway rejected last October by the planning authorities, the Southwold Railway Trust has taken on board the views of planners and of residents in the village of Wenhaston. Revised and simplified proposals are being considered by the Southwold Railway Trust with a view to making a fresh planning application during 2013. Meanwhile work continues on the construction of replica Sharp Stewart 2-4-0 Blyth, with latest components incluiding the chimney and smokebox door. Design work is currently focussed on the boiler. Donations for the new loco can be made via the Southwold Rauilway Trust website, where the details of our 2-4-0 club are explained.

Southwold Railway Trust

As a new attraction this summer the Southwold Railway Trust is to launch a number of tours by vintage bus of the sites of interest that remain along the route of the Southwold Railway. Bus tours will depart from the Railway Shop in Southwold on 28th March, 4th July, 18th July, 1st, 15th and 29th August. These tours will be designed to connect with Liverpool St trains at Halesworth. A conductor will explain to visitors the scenic attractions of the route, and on return to Southwold there will be an opportunity to watch a film show of the Southwold Railway in the town’s famous picture palace. Details of the bus tours can be found on the website www.southwoldrailway.co.uk or via the Railway Shop, 27 High Street Southwold IP18 6AD 01502 725422
