Help the Leighton Buzzard remember "The Dasher"

June 30th will be the 40th anniversary of the withdrawal of “The Dasher”—the push-pull passenger train service between Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable. It will also be the day of the Leighton Buzzard Railways annual Vintage Vehicle Rally, and a display of photos and memorabilia of the nearby branch line will take place to mark the anniversary.

Anyone with any additional material, or any memories of the Dunstable branch, is
invited to come along and share them.

The Leighton Buzzard-Dunstable branch line crossed Billington Road a
short distance from todays LBR Pages Park station. The crossing
keepers house still stands, although the trackbed has disappeared
under industrial developments. Narrow-gauge sand trains from the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway
transferred their loads into standard-gauge wagons, in Billington Road
exchange sidings. The branch closed for freight in 1969.
