At the time I visited Aguas Calientes, the locals were objecting to the continued closure of the line beyond Aguas Calientes to Quillabamba. (A landslip some years previouly had never been repaired) As well as rubbish on the track some sleepers were removed.
But prime minister Fujimori resigned that night so the locals went home and services were restored early the next day.
