Hi,

Just to confirm that I'd also purchased one of the 750mm gauge Möes locos. It has been regauged to 2ft, and from last month it is all finally working again. It has had what amounts to a full service, with various minor components replaced, but overall it was in a workable condition when received. All the wiring has also been replaced.
PS. I know where GAT is! He is in my workshop under restoration.
Having looked at the photo in as many different ways as I can, I am virtually certain that the name plate is that of "Isibutu". I am also fairly certain that the location is not Whipsnade. In fact did it ever go to Whipsnade? If so can only have been as an static exhibit. Can't vouch for Knebworth though for,to my shame,I never visited.
Does anyone know the location of any or all of the Walton-Binns locos and/or his longer term plans?

Am very aware of two of the Walton-Binns locos (Sinembe and Charles Wytock) as he had them at WHR (Porthmadog) for many years; many will remember Sinembe as it spent some time in the car park, and latterly decaying at Pen y Mount after asbestos stripping; Wytock wasn't much more than underframe and boiler (I saw it leaving in just that state) and was usually hidden behind the NG15. My point remains though that they were still in South Africa when the photo was taken, whereas Isibutu WB 2820/1946 was in the UK, and spent quite some time at Knebworth.
Captioned as: "One of the locomotives of the Whipsnade and Umfolozi railway shot in the late 1970's. Can anyone positively identify it?"
The loco is surely Bagnall 2' gauge 4-4-0T Isibutu, now at Statfold Barn, as I don't think either of the others of that type now in the UK had been imported by then. Can anyone confirm the location as Whipsnade (I've never been there)? If it isn't, Knebworth would fit the loco and period.

The "Bagnall" is a Fowler 0-6-0T or 0-6-2T - it came from one of those large shipments a few years ago of locos from Sena Sugar in Mozambique.

The de Winton is the ex-Penrhyn Kathleen, previously at Gloddfa Ganol, and when it was there it didn't look too bad, having been part-restored in Kent before it returned to Wales. I know for a fact that it had the highest guide price of any item in the sealed bid auction when the Gloddfa Ganol collection was sold off.

Don't know the story behind the Progrès class Decauville. That looks very much like a German army WW1 loco water tender on the right.

As far as I am aware, the only extant CGR vehicle is the body of brake van 152, which will form the centrepiece of the CGR Museum when it finally opens. Work up (well, actually down from where we live, but the summit of the Troodhos is between us!) at Evrykhou is progressing steadily, with the platform area now being paved. The track down to the station is still very rough, though, and a proper car park will have to be provided before the museum can be opened. I'd guess early to mid 2009 would be a realistic estimate.

I came back from Cyprus a couple of weeks back, and I won't be going back now till September. I will certainly make a point of a trip over to Xeros armed with a tape measure as well as the camera!

If you would settle for Cyprus Mines Corpn Railway No 1 (BW 54647 of 1921) which was an 0-6-0 Saddle Tank, or No 3 (BW 57790 of 1924), which was a 2-8-2, there are drawings by Ray Tustin in Model Railway News,April 1947. Unfortunately, he says the drawings are modified for modelling purposes, and the valve gear was estimated, and knowing of his drawings on other railways, you would have to treat them with certain amount of caution. But it would be worth comparing them with photographs to see if they would produce a reasonable model.

Is narolines aware of whether there are any CGR coach or van bodies still around in Cyprus ? In 1971 Barry Turner referred (in his letters to me) of several examples of coaches and wagons (without underframes) existing around Nicosia and Famagusta, one even being used for pigs. No 17 was in a breakers yard in Nicosia. Maybe pictures of some of them feature in his book; I do not have a copy.

At the time he was in regular correspondence with Mr Tustin (who was in Cyprus 1944-45) and Col Turner comments on his Cyprus drawings, but whether these drawings were ever published, I do not not know. Col Turner certainly had copies. He refers to door runners not being quite right, so it sounds as if goods stock might have featured in them.

This trust does seem like it wants to have its cake and eat it too. This discussion thread leaves it unclear exactly what the status is (charity wise) and who owns the locos etc.
But, whatever the status, it seems to be the case that the Phyllis Rampton gets some public money, yet noone can see any of their collection.
Shouldn't someone do something about this...??!!

I've got no idea of the history of any of these, I just thought that they looked nice little locos - so took a picture! It was only recently I discovered that one was a Decauville and I just assumed the other was a Bagnall as it looked vaguely like one.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable, just enthusiatic!!
